Our history
The business was established in 1961, when business partners Derek Crosby and William Eaves began trading as joiners and undertakers 'Crosby & Eaves' from premeses at Flatt Walks, Whitehaven. Derek and William had previously worked together at J Fearon & Sons, Whitehaven for six years before setting up in business themselves. They moved the business to its current location on High Road, Kells, Whitehaven in 1970.
Sadly, Derek Crosby passed away in 1974, aged just 38, and so it fell to William to continue to build the business himself. William was aided by his wife, Margaret, and together they trained and gained qualifications for embalming in 1981. In that year, William's brother Richard joined the business, and continued to work until his death in 2000. William also occasionally enlisted the services of his father, William senior, between 1975 and 1993.

William's son, Philip Eaves, joined the family business in 1992, following his father's footsteps in to funeral directing. The unblemished reputation for quality and professionalism meant the business continued to flourish. The business took on its current guise, Eaves Funeral Service Ltd. in September 2002, and in 2007 employed another funeral director in the form of William's son-in-law, Mike Jolly. William's daughter Julia also joined the business in 2008.
